About Trees - Non-Fiction Lesson Plan

Materials needed:
  • Print out a copy of About Trees written by Sherry Sterling (click here)

  • *SAY*:  Today we are going to read from the book, About Trees. Let’s think about all the different kinds of trees we see  in our neighborhood. What do we know about trees?
  • Teach student about the various features of informational text (headings, bold print, table of contents, glossary, index, captions, etc.) and how we might approach the reading of informational texts differently than how we read a narrative. For example, we might choose to read sections of the book out of order, based on our purpose for reading.
