I actually followed the Bluedorn's advice in "Teaching the Trivium" and waited until my daughter was 10 to begin formal math training with her. It really worked, she is in 9th grade now and doing algebra. At age 10 she caught up to grade level math probably within a year. I found the following math games and thought I'd share:
