Freebie Frozen Printables

I don't know about the children in your home, but I know that the children in my home LOVE, LOVE, (and did I mention LOVE?) Frozen.  We have seen it umpteen times and everyone in the house knows the lyrics to almost all of the songs.  I found this great freebie pack based on the movie from overthebigmoon.  Although it is too young for my kiddos, if you have a little one, you will want to grab this now!

Snowflake Roll and Cover Math Freebie

I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but here the forecast has been snow, snow, and more snow!  That is why I love this adorable little freebie from Learning With Preschoolers! Even if you don't have snow, your kiddos can learn math with some adorable snowmen.

Simply make copies of the dice game onto card stock and laminate. Give your child a game mat and game dice. Have the  child roll the dice and identify the number on the dice. Once they have identified the number have them find that number on the game mat and place a snowflake marker on top of that number snowflake. (You could use other markers such as beans, beads, cut construction paper, etc.).Have your child keep rolling the dice until they have caught all of the snowflakes on their mat.


For children that need a challenge give them two game dice so that they have to add the two dice together and find that snowflake with the correct number.

Alphabetimals - Fun Alphabet

If your kiddos are just learning their ABC's, you will definitely want to check out Alphabetimals!  The site features a read along book that has a sound for both the animal and the word.

You can also type in any name or word to see it in alphabetimals style just like we did with Luke's name!

Snowman Math Game

Making Learning Fun  has this adorable Printable Snowman Game that you can print out for several fun math activities with your kiddos.  Just grab a few cottonballs and a die and get ready to play!  You can play using the directions provided, or try one of these variations:

 1. Write the numbers from 1 to 10 and have your child cover that number when they roll that number.

2. Have your child cover one circle for each odd number rolled, and two circles for each even number rolled.

3. Have your child roll the die, cover that many circles, then tell you how many they would need to roll to cover the remaining circles.

FREE alphabet tracing pages

Momto2boys24 has some amazing alphabet tracing pages!  Included is one for each letter both upper and lower case.  I made a whole book for Luke by printing them out, sliding them into page protectors and putting them in a poly folder. He can use dry erase markers or dry erase crayons to complete and reuse them.  He typically practices a page or two each day.

If you'd like to re-use these coloring pages over and over without reprinting, simply slide them into a page protectors and have your child(ren) use dry-erase crayons to color.

5 Essential Literacy Activities for Beginning Readers

As your little ones enter the world of beginning to read, there are five essential literacy activities that you should incorporate into your daily lessons.  These include:

Reading to your child.  Read books to your child that offer rich oral language and involve opportunities for discussion.  For example, you might want to read the book No David! as you ask your child to infer why the mom (or dad) might be mad at David. Build your child's vocabulary with books in the Skippyjon Jones series.  You might want to see if your kiddo can use the context clues to figure out what the Spanish words mean.  Older kiddos don't have to be left out of the reading aloud experience.  A Series of Unfortunate Events is also a great vocabulary builder for your older ones.

Read with your child.  Read with your child using the support of familiar, predictable, and rhyming texts such as Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?  Have your child fingerpoint as they read.  You can type up segments of the text or a sentence for the child to arrange in the correct order.

Write with your child.  Take turns writing a story or a few sentences with your child about your day's activities.  Model how you think of beginning sounds as you write.  For example if you were writing "We went to the park" you might say, I know that we starts with the 'w' sound and w makes that sound.

Word Study.  Word study for the beginning reader includes letter sorts and cards to teach the alphabet, picture sorts to teach beginning sounds, and concept sorts for thinking and vocabulary instruction.

Talk With.  Talk to your child often to help their oral language grow.  Tell stories, talk about pictures in books, play what if, anything to make your kiddo use their words.

Alphabet Practice

If your little ones are working on writing their alphabet, these reproducible worksheets help learners to trace and write upper- and lowercase letters in either traditional or modern manuscript. I saw a similar product at the store the other day for $4.99 for a dry erase version.  You can print these out and slide them in a page protector or laminate them for the same effect - only less pricey!

Free Pattern Block Templates

Luke has recently discovered out pattern blocks, so I was excited when I discovered these free pattern block templates.  You can print them out on cardstock and laminate them for extra durability and repeated use.

If you don't have your own pattern blocks, you can create some with this printable.  Again, print them on cardstock and laminate for durability, especially if you are homeschooling more than one kiddo!

Alphabet Search

If you are looking for a fun way to help your child practice letter recognition, print out this alphabet search template and provide your kiddos with a few magazines, a pair of scizzors, and a glue stick.  Have them hunt through the magazine matching up each letter of the alphabet.  The template includes both upper and lower case letters.

Winter Color By Number

This adorable winter themed color by number  will help your child recognize whole numbers 1-6 and reinforce colors.
