Learning With Pattern Blocks

Luke has been loving our pattern blocks this week.  Above is a picture of a dog he created.  As he worked, we talked about a few concepts he used.  For example he used an AB pattern in the body.  We talked about AB patterns and what color block would come next.  Then I asked him what letter could he see in the dog he had created.  Can you see it?  We could also have talked about what shapes and colors he used if he was a little younger.

What ways do you sneak learning into your child's play?  What questions do you ask?  What type of conversations do you have?

If your little one would like to play with pattern blocks, but you don't have any, you can make your own with this template (print on colored paper and laminate for durability).
