Multiplication Strategy

If your kiddos are having a hard time learning their multiplication facts, you might want to try this strategy.

1.  Read the problem.        3 X 6 = _____

2. Have your child point to one of the numbers he/she can count by.  child points to 3

3. Make a set of marks indicated by the other number.
/ / / / / / (6 in this example)

4. Begin counting by the number you know how to count by, and count up once for each mark touching each mark as you count.
3,6,9,12,15,18

5. Stop counting when you reach the last mark.

6. Write the last number you said in the answer
3 X 6 = 18
